Bu Faisal VS Bu Faisal

GULF BANK's BuFaisal

As received:

“p0ach please share this on your blog

Guys did you notice NBK’s new ads this week?  Did it remind you of another bank’s campaign only last month?  No? Does the name Gulf Bank trigger anything?  Ok, well if you’ve been locked up somewhere for the past months, let me update you on life.  Not really, but bear with me.  Here’s the story, last month there were a few billboards, ads, etc. with pictures of “Gulf Bank clients” saying how Gulf Bank helped them, and how there lives are now fulfilled, and their dreams came true.  Thank you violins, you can stop now.  Now going back to our story.  NBK was apparently ‘ouched’ and they acted fast.  (A little too fast, I might say.)  And so, NBK has new ads with pictures, also of fulfilled, happy “Gulf Bank clients”. Is it a ‘copy-cat’ case, or a ‘my daddy is bigger than your daddy’ war?  Anyways, while the big boys take it outside, like good boys do.  Let’s decide on whom we prefer, Gulf Bank’s immaculate Bu Faisal, or NBK’s ‘too real for my taste’ Bu Faisal? “

Well, hah ! this is funny cuz there’s truth in it somehow. I love both banks big time, however let;s see what you guys think ?

WOW a beautiful way to start the year, eih ?

THANK YOU BO-AHMAD

for as long as i remember NBK had been using faces of people posing as happy clients for their ads… therefore when i saw the latest ads I did not get it immediately that wow NBK ripped off Gulf Bank’s campaging

The fact stays that if NBK had indeed intended to copy cat gulf bank’s ad then gulf bank should be gloating because it means that NBK is regarding them as threatining competition and have stooped to the level of copying them especially since people would then say “weee nbk qaledaw gulf bank! what a shame”… el shams ma tet’3a6a eb makhal! But i would have to go see the ads again and check if they are copies of each other or not…

As for which bufai9al i prefer frankly i prefer Gulf Bank’s… i can relate to GBK’s youngish looking groomed man because that’s how i wish my husband would look like when he reaches his age and people who take care of themselves obviously are classy and choose only the best for their selves… therefore their choice of GBK would be a good message for me too… inama the oldie man is exactly the man i do not want my husband to become fa i don’t relate to him nor would i care for what bank he chooses per say… maybe an old man his age would relate to him more but which clients would you rather have? Young ones who are at the peak of their careers with full salaries and tons of things that need acquiring (cars houses etc.) or old men about to retire and pretty much have every thing settled and ready?!

To make a long comment short ! Recently i’ve noticed dramatic improvement and alot of creativity from the gulf bank and vise versa regarding NBK. Their ads lost their .. What do u call it.. Touch? Very disappointing especially since they were known for their amusing ads!

What I’m curious about is why the gulf bank are worried about NBK copying their ads?no offense but don’t underestimate people, they can figure out what’s happening.Besides I don’t understand why it’s Even important to mention?

I have to say im a bit upset seeing you sell out so easy. This post has been posted on many blogs and I myself have received it from a Gulf bank representative to post I refused because i needed to investigate the allegations myself since i have accounts in both banks :P It turns out NBK ad uses real clients of theirs and the NBK man is really named Bu Faisal where as GB ads uses models with fake names. I didnt like that GB “people” sent that email trying cause problems. Just because Gulf Bank sponsor ur blog doesnt mean you have to write whatever they send u ;) thats the freedom of owning a blog. Dont forget that :)

      Yes it did.

U do realize i typed – as recieved – before the post starts.

Ofcourse u and everyone else got it.

i hope you try and use better phrases to take ur points across.

  12. Here’s the thing: In no way shape or form is this a matter of “copying”. I’m a Gulf Bank employee and when you really look at both ads and what they’re trying to get across, the ideas are completely different.

NBK’s image has always tried to relate to it’s customers and included real people in it’s ads. This ad is more of a social responsibility campaign, where they’re validating people’s choices (NBK). That is an EXCELLENT way of reaching your clients emotionally, and even more so since they used real people and quotes.

Now, from what I know, Gulf Bank has never used people in it’s ads until now. We’ve always had an object or an idea, but never people. As most of you may have noticed, we’ve changed our corporate image. Our latest ads are focused more on changing our image than explaining why people chose Gulf Bank.

    Two totally different points.

If it came down to being able to relate to one ad or the other, I would relate to NBK’s ad simply because they used REAL people. Gulf Bank’s Bu Faisal is not the face I’d associate with “Bu Faisal” – NBK’s is.

As for the name Bu Faisal, it is a typical Kuwaiti “dad” name. The only difference here is that one is REALLY a Bu Faisal (NBK) and the other is not (Gulf Bank).

That being said, I love what both banks are doing in terms of marketing. It’s nice to see Kuwait breaking boundaries and trying to do something different.

Why do we have to see everything as a competition? Hmmmm.
