Oscar Wilde was a man who lived a fancy life in a rich family, was tutored at home, then studied in Dublin and Oxford, went back to London to live in fashionable fancy social circles after studying Aestheticism which values beauty over morals and social themes which explains why he was imprisoned for indecency with other men before his death and only converted to Roman Catholicism on his deathbed, and he was also a top student, which explains why he would say something too ego and broad like that.
These days people label any person they don’t like or doesn’t agree with them as “stupid” so that what he says, does or believes in would be labeled as “wrong”, since labeling someone as “stupid” means he lacks knowledge, and if he lacks knowledge then his actions and words would automatically in most cases be incorrect.

It’s wiser to believe that we lack knowledge than it is to label others as lacking of knowledge.
