Abdullah Interviews Rawan Al-Nafisi

Another blessed day for sure, I am beyond thrilled and happy to have today’s guest, the fine Miss Rawan Al-Nafisi to grace the front page of p0ach.com

Look, its very simple, a single young girl, at the tender age of 23, holding a cam, doing her thing on canvas, graphic designs, successful and has her own business, STUDIO R, means one thing and one thing only, Kuwaiti young women are the new formula of what success is.

Down to earth with her experiences and already has a “p0ach ANGEL” award without her knowing it, simply because, aside from her hard hitting professional job, she, has a passion on the side, photographing Kids. When you touch on a subject like that you own me. completely. You cant go wrong with kids thats all im saying.

Shy as ever from the outside, bold, powerful, determined and in control from the inside, meet a local HAWT angel blazing the way for whats IN, dope and successful.

Rawan, drop your cam and introduce yourself to the world.
Well, im Rawan Al Nafisi, 23 years young, BA in Advertising, BA in Graphic Design. Professionally I’m interested in graphic design and photography. As for my personal life I cant live without the sea “ba7ar”, friends and family gatherings, and traveling.

I know its hard to put what you like/your business and passion, photography, in a line or two so can you categorize what you do ?

Work: After graduating from university I have worked for an advertising agency for a while, meanwhile I’m focusing on my career objectives (studio R). Studio R is my personal business. Like any other business I have to build a base in order to grow. The base of this business is photography, after which I plan to develop it into a bigger business as I prove myself in the country.

Photography: I provide products as well as services. Products such as photography artwork done personally by me and as for services, I conduct photo-shoots for personal portraits as well as commercial use.

Graphic design has always been a passionate interest in my life. Throughout my school years I have always wanted to shine through this passion. In 9th grade I created a logo that eventually ended up on all my books, friends’ books, school desks, walls and my backpack. That logo managed to survive throughout time and evolved into the logo I’m using for studio R now.

Another memory that struck by while reading your questions was there were some classes (yearbook class) in school that I could have taken and wanted to do so very badly. However, I didn’t. I was told many reasons that did not seem to make sense. Ironically, before I graduated from college I was contacted by them and was asked to teach the yearbook class and be in charge of its designs.

I’ve always loved capturing moments. Photography is another passion. During my university years I took some photography classes to enhance my skills. I loved it even more. After every project, with all the hard work I love it more and more. That’s when I started freelancing in photography. After university I took some more courses in Kuwait. I was so eager to boost my abilities and broaden my visual sense so I went to London and took a few courses in one of the greatest universities of design.

Services: I’m specializing in photographing people, mainly babies, whether it’s a family portrait, new born, baby, or commercial. All from scratch, from finding a unique location spot or even in a studio, to photo-shoot, to postproduction.

Aint it crazy ? having these two interests, photography and graphic design ? I mean I understand they compliment eachother, yet its tough to hold on to’em, no ?
A lot of people tell me I’m lucky because I have a passion and a dream… but I have two. Believe me, that’s no luck, it’s the toughest dilemma. In order to run my business successfully, I had to choose between photography and graphic design.
What can I say, I love photography, I love design, and I also love the texture of canvas, but I won’t choose. So what I’m doing is putting them all together having unique pieces of art as a decorative luxury. (Photography products)

What lead you to where you are today ?
What lead me to where I am now is some of my characteristics. I am a competitive person, and what is better to compete in something you love doing? I also have a strength in leadership; I’m my own boss. Hence studio R. Being a strong independent person has inspired me to take my own road and do my own thing.

Where do you see yourself five years from now ?
Hmm five years from now? .. I’ve got a surprise that will please the young mothers of Kuwait. Stay tuned…

Throw something for p0ach.com readers.
I urge everyone to follow their dreams no matter how silly they seem at the beginning. I know I have, and knowing that you have reached a goal is just an utter feeling of satisfaction and serenity. Who wouldn’t want that?
