Review: Melenzane

The kind people over at Melenzane restaurant, invited us for a hush hush down low food review.

Before I get into that, let me just say that the owners were amazingly sweet and beyond wonderful, never met them before but I felt like I knew them long long time ago, people like them exist rarely. I could not believe that this restaurant is their creation. Meaning, Melenzane is not a franchise, its a kuwaiti creation, inspired by a Sicilian chef. I can not be any happier for them, they created a whole brand all by themselves, in my book, that is an event. They stayed with us, told us their story, but we are not sharing it with you, for now.

Design:
I know your waiting for the food review, hold your horses, lemme just highlight the many things I liked about the design. I loved the insanity, thats all im saying, simply because I can not go through the things that were exaplined to me, that master plan would take days, so, i’ll just blast you with pics.

I fell in love with the level of escapism this spot gave me. It took away work pressure almost immediately. Its probably the purple, gold, black glaze that took me into that space where everything was new and literally, upside down.

The atmosphere is calm accompanied by soft lighting, eased out surroundings so umm, pretty zexy.
Interesting fact, Melenzane means egg plant, that, in a way or another explains the purple color strong appearance in their design.

FOOD:
Call it Sicilian, call it Zexy Italian, I, however, call it soul food, thats what it is, its a mixture of *GASP* and “um um um, thats tasty, how did they do that ?” not one dish passed by without total satisfaction. I loved the food presentation, simple, white, home made feel with loads of elegance and grace.

Lets start with the free table dish

Tender, light and fresh.

The Mushroom soup and salads were perfection in plates.

Next comes the “LAWWWD HAVE MERCY ON ME” dishes:

That burger is to die for, we had to play “paper, scissor, stone” and win the last piece. Mouthwatering, GALORE !

OHH LAWWD WE BETTER PRAY before we get into that next dish of fine mushrooms cuz I have never thought that these little devils are that addictive, ohh ladies your gonna do the hair flip pose after this dish.

This mushroom funghi dish made me go KOKO in the brain, my brain cells were doing this

Eggplant with meat and tomato sauce, Im not a fan of eggplants at all, Abdullah, my friend, insisted I taste it, I did, I fell in love with it, hated him for having the last bite !

Extremely skeptical about the fish plate, so I looked at Fahad, my friend, and said you first, HAH! He went ahead and gave me the “OHH AHH” reaction, you know I had to hit him back, so I tasted it, and here is what I thought:
Velvety smooth, feels like chicken, slides, melts in the middle, crunchy on the sides, creamy in the mouth, TWO THUMBS UP !

Grab a look at more dishes here:

These dishes were mighty fine and delicious too.

Remember, this is a low key, semi soft opening, so If you’d like to go, make a reservation, the guys only cook diner for now so they’ll be open from 7-11 pm. Make haste !

    “paper, scissor, stone”

LOL you can’t be serious. I love this blog for the comedic value I get out of it. It’s insane how globalized American pop culture is, and your blog is the perfect example. Here you are, fruitier than a pop-tart, fusing the “latest” American slang with your broken English. I really want to thank you for making my day at work that much better, with your “you gooo girlll”, oh and I really loved this one! ” ohh ladies your gonna do the hair flip pose after this dish” Pray tell, what exactly is the hair flip pose?

    Keep those “fabulouthhhh” posts coming!

I heard of jealousy..But dude you’re the King of it. And um if you need comedy just download it. It’s free. Unless you don’t know how to use it since your English is so Classical, Perfect and 16-17th century you would so not understand Cyber Vocabulary!
Abdullah means a lot to a lot of people, which you probably wouldn’t understand cause you mean nothing to everyone, and when you diss him (by trying to be rottentomatoes.com/NYtimes critic wannabe) you’re ticking off many. And if you don’t care well that’s typical.
I wish I have seen this when you first wrote it. It would have been added to my “Comedic Value” to get to know you …NOT.
Get a life my friend and look up the word NICE.. It’s good education for you :)
And I love how Adbullah rose above it all and played along with you !

Hey there, thanks for stopping by ;D

Yeah, im kind of KOKO in the brain when it comes to food and im super glad you found humor in what I typed.

Oh and the hair flip pose is when you eat something so good, you, women, tend to hold whats dear to your heart the most, your hair, so one hand has the fork while the other holds sides of your hair, your face ? eye popping with GASP mouth.

      did I get there yet ? :P

Thank you for the kind words, it means alot, honestly.

    • broken english? sounds like a diss to me…..and fruitier than a pop-tart? the blog should be fun..but then again it is not a joke…..your comment was just really annoying to me….it didnt sound like praise at all….more like belittlement

I always lv and totally support creativity and the courage it takes to create something new and different (specially creative kuwaitis). May god bless them with success. I lv Italian food and the dishes pictures look mouth watering and divine. I just didn’t feel the atmosphere!! A bit cold for my taste, I prefer cozy. I will totally go soon :) am a sucker for kuwaitie creativity :D

    • Abdullah on said:

You SOOO get me with the creative kuwaitis concept, it warms my mean black heart when I see their success.

contrary to what you say, I think, you’ll love how cozy it is when you hit the spot

  7. Aaah, definitely up their with one of the best restaurants in Kuwait.

The burger was beyond mouthwatering, it melts in one’s mouth!

Aside from all the dishes, the the sauces were crazy, I swear I could’ve eaten the sauces without the actual food.

I can’t wait for their grand opening, it’s going to be a hot spot for sure.

Quite literally the only Kuwaiti owned restaurant with original elements in it. Sad that Kuwait’s innovation scene is a copy paste fest but these guys are refreshing.

My only gripe is the cliched Italian sounding name. Chaos or Anarchy or perhaps Avant’Garde even would have been more fitting I think.

    • Abdullah on said:

Hey there Fuzzy, thanks for dropping by ;D

I get your concept with the copy paste line, your so right and your right where the money is.

About the name, I find it musical, it reminds me of the first time I heard Christina Aguleira’s name, it was hard to learn but stayed forever. LOOOOL your funny :P

  9. definitely going this weekend!

Dude, I like your blog. But it’d look even better if you cleaned up some of the simple spelling errors. It’s a little ridiculous that you still confuse “your” with “you’re” and so on.

I’ve tried Melenzane for a good 4 days in a row and it’s remarkably well.

Food is extremely delicious. I sincerely admire his taste in design as well – the “upside-down” furniture notion is exquisite.

Their concept of hospitality, generosity and courtesy is utterly genuine and inspirational.

Also, Chef+Co-Owner Mohammed is exceedingly friendly, polite and undoubtedly respectful – tremendous guy.

Good luck o 3asa Allah ywafighom.
