Abdullah Interviews Mariam Al-Rushaid

1

ITS SATURDAY AGAIN !

I am so happy with the responses and interview drafts we have ready for you to share every saturday. This whole thing is a blessing.

I have been given the opportunity to be one of those who got a chocolate box of goodies from Chocopolis, the variety, colors, shapes and sizes was overwhelming, specially when I received it at work.

The taste was different, unique, delightful & “different”.

Anyway, lets get to it,

8

Mariam, make yourself known to the public.
Well, my name is Mariam AlRushaid, Im 25 years old, graduated from Kuwait University (Business Administrations), as of this moment I work in the ministry of information, happily married and have one little loving son.

Ok so the first thing I read and then re-read again was the title of your shop, Chocopolis, what does it stand for? Also, please elaborate more on the decoration because its really amazing.
Chocopolis means Elegant chocolate in French. Earlier, in the Greek’s period the root of the phrase means the city of chocolate.
The decoration is inspired from the French countryside starting with the pink Paeonia Flower ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peony ), the green wall, wooden floor and shelves.

Whats the most iconic thing that comes to mind when you think of your shop?
Our boxes, see, our boxes have our logo with Paeonia, which are available in two sizes, the rich print, the getaway feeling of europe and freelance freedom inspired from the french countryside. Most importantly, however, is that our chocolate has a heavy filling of goods, yet its light and delightful, not to mention the different colors, shapes and sizes that make the packages look great.

4

Your young, what was the element that pushed you outside of your box, made you open this shop, start this business ?
Well Abdullah, It has to be my unconditional love for chocolates, sweets, gifts, new ideas for displaying and wrapping. Its a very girly thing from the outside, yet alot of hard work behind the scenes.

5

You know how the country is about to explode with sweets and tummy fillers of that sort, how do you see yourself being different/unique from the rest ?
I guess its all about the diversity, you see the diversity we made in the shop is just different, we have goodies from all around the globe: Belgium, France, USA , China, Ceylon , Turkey , Persia , and Lebanon . Also, the mixture of selections we made from the oriental to western taste makes a great impression for our customers and give them a relive to make good choices. The excellent quality , taste and idea VS good pricing.
In addition to that, you have the other aspect of filling the chocolate with top notch, high quality fillers such as ; Tamarind, Jullab, Nescafe, Cherry cheesecake, strawberry truffles, chocolate truffles, light pistachio, chopped coconuts and the round chocolate dried fruits. Some bites like, rose petals Turkish delights and samsamia. Moreover, the “Dragees” or “mulabis” in Kuwaiti dialect is one of the finest which are available in chocolate covers ; Ginger, Pineapple, dried grape and Hazelnut. Other mulabis or “baith il sa3o” are covered with sugar and filled with jordan almond and chocolate and all are edible.

These are some elements that give Chocopolis exclusivity and staying power.

6

Amazing round of selection I must say, so how do you keep it all together, your backbone, your support system, family and friends ?
I have been blessed with a wonderful family, supportive and there for me, starting with my loving mother, to my dear husband and twin sister Fawzia. They were all there for me !
Last but definitely not least, my piece of sunshine, my son, specially for not bothering his mommy at night. I love you all so much.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now ?
Having at least 3 branches of Chocopolis plus expansion in pastries selections, gift items and occasions planning.

7

Alrighty then, throw something for p0ach readers.
I encourage all of you who feel that they can do an eye catching event/plan, to just do it without hesitation. Remember that having an excellent plan is key to success. Take action, be responsible, have a good follow up and you will succeed inshallah!
