Abdullah Interviews Dhari Al-Wazzan

4777_96966231694_503016694_2526353_1720900_n

“I want to interview you” I yelled. He smiled, he said interview me ? for what ?.

Thats how the whole thing started with this interview, I can have my way with people. You see, my face is very innocent. HAH!

Seriously though, I have a list of people I want to cover, This guy in particular was a favorite of mine. I remember two years back, I voluntered in a non profit organization, to teach students in private schools in my free time. I have to construct a full project with my students. In short, they did a phenomenal job, a product was out, we had a venue to display our stuff out. Dhari, came, i didnt know him back then, he came with his eyes fixed on the kids, asking them direct questions about their product, how they did it, what was the process. As he was doing that, I was hovering around, over hearing him talk to the kids.

Eventually, after he was convinced with the product and its stability, he supported the kids and brought the biggest joy to their hearts by buying HALF of all that was displayed. My boys were up with joy, laughter, mad love for this amazing positive energy.

I then developed a special friendship with Dhari. Super sweet, quiet, down to earth, speaks with a very respective tone, pauses, awaits and wants to hear what you have to say. He called me the other day and said HEY ! I have a number of new projects coming out, want you to grab a look on whats going on.

I came to his office, he took me wholeheartedly to his new still unFinished incredibly designed lavish offices for the staff, people, kids, community and kuwait as a whole to grace. He kept talking about how enthusiastic he is to make his new projects happen and all. I rushed and took my cam out and snapped exclusive pics for you guys immediately, he laughed and said ” but its not done yet”, I said i dont care, plus it looks zexy being constructed and all. He agreed for me to take some pics so there we are.

Anyway, You know how much I love to talk, but what you need to know before you go on with the interview is that this is the only place where you’ll find this candid, often misunderstood gentleman, patriotic, super sweet heart, talks, guard down, laid back and just deep. I have nothing but the uttmost respect and brotherly love to my dear friend Dhari, go on readers, click away !

Dhari, blast away and talk about your self.

Well, my name is Dhari Al Wazzan, Im 27, Im interested in sports, soccer, martial arts, shooting, community service, reading, fine arts, playing musical instruments & traveling. I have a Bachelors degree in corporate finance and accounting from Bentley College in Boston, graduated in 2004. Currently I am a Business Development Manager at Ford, and I am also handling family business.

I am a social person ever since i was young, loved to get to know people and gather people together; mixing with different nationalities all over the world was something that made a change in my life and added a lot of information and even changed a lot of the ideas and the way i looked at things.

Being in the states, and getting some time on my own, was behind a dramatic change in my life and what im in right now. yes it gave me the time to think things over and over again. I started planning out my life

as to where i want things to head both socially and professionally. You need to always sit with yourself and emphasize more on what you love, write things down to organize yourself, set goals, always set goals, so that each and every action you take would always head towards achieving that goal.

On the other hand, I love to exercise on a daily basis, LOVE WALKING long distances especially when traveling.

What inspired you to tap into who you are now  ?

Once i came to start work and had seen this business prospering and been well built into something exceptionally large. i came to face a huge challenge and responsibility of handling the current business and taking it into a more developed stage and expand it into diverse business by picking prosperous oppurtunities. However, the biggest challenge lies within sustaining the existing business level and even improving it. And this all happened because of my father’s inspiration. He happens to by my role model in building this entity and learning from his experience in dealing with issues both socially and professionally.

My parents are my biggest inspiration.

Well, I’v been to your new upcoming renovated section at ford, let me just say that its amazing, a mixture between apple store/google offices, what made you decide to renovate the whole place with this open space philosophy ?

After extensive studies, looking up magazines, and office books; i came to realize that the closed environment held up everyone into their own bubble or nutshell and made us miss a big chance of interaction and some sort of a family environment where everyone interacts and socializes with the other. This in return, in my opinion wont delay work, cuz at the end of the day, one has a task to fulfill and he will anyway wether he socializes or not, its his responsibility.

I believe in open space for people to feel comfortable and fresh with a big space, high ceilings, bright colors, transparent glass to view the showroom, and we have adapted transparency to have everyone visible to each other and this will always help people stay on top of work. Also having everyone together with equality spread amongst manager office sizes and workstation space equally spread for others helps in consistency and space utilization.

I wanted to create a fun environment and for them not to be trapped in a place but feel like home or comfortable enough to be more productive and look always into another day at work, making people cant wait to come back and achieve more. They also can have daily meetings altogether every morning and socialize a bit, exchange thoughts or intersting news before they start work.

I have started along with a team at the department of marketing and communications at ford, this department’s core work is to focus on the youth all over kuwait (universities, highschools, public places) to educate them about ford and also be of support/sponsor to their projects or events just for us as a company to be part of their lives and success, rather than just sit, make money by selling cars, and watch.  its a social obligation, I encourage all companies to start turning around and focusing more on “real beneficial/educational” obligation.

The marketing and communication dept also started the thunderbird program for the third year now, and it includes more than 20 students every session. for a period of 4-5 weeks. in this experience they learn a lot,

we would get them guest speakers, teach them several subjects, have them get a taste of real life work, and overall with a family atmosphere full of fun and enjoyment. www.ford.com.kw/thunderbird

In my opinion, Proud To Be Kuwaiti, is the event of the year, after eid, how do you think, this has changed/affected the society ? small businesses ?

First of all, thanks for calling it the event of the year, and if thats what you called it, I guess thats because of the time and effort the whole team put into it to make it memorable and an unforgetable experience. it has changed the society by making people realize that their are tremendous efforts being achieved by several people, and that a lot of creativity shown by them that needs to recognized and exposed to the public to show support to them and motivate others in the society to “wake up” and find a meaning to their life by putting an effort into a hobby, interest, or business that can develop their lives into something more useful.

In return, great benefits have been obtained by small business, while recieving feedbacks which were excellent and that resulted in people getting to know them, influenced by them to start their own businesses, and again marketing their business to vast amount of people(basically mass marketing).

That was part of the objective behind p2bk, as i happen to know everyone has this in them (love of Kuwait) and thats why i worked hard to pump that feeling out in everyone that saw the name and attended, as i wanted each and every person to believe in Kuwait and Kuwaiti Talents, that yes, for a fact, this made a difference, but rather a world class difference with their achievements that have reached the world.

www.whoswhoinkuwait.net im glad that people have come back to me after witnessing p2bk and said “every human being has a passion in himself but its like sugar in the bottom of a tea cup, if u had 10 spoons of sugar the tea wont taste sweet until you move it”  thats what happened with p2bk, p2bk has shaken Kuwaitis and woke up feelings of faith and passion for Kuwait, and thats exactly what Iwas looking for.

P2BK is OPEN TO EVERYONE TO JOIN IF THEY HAVE THE WILL, PASSION, AND COMMITMENT. JUST EMAIL US AT INFO@P2BK.COM AND WE LL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO WORK TOGETHER. P2BK IS THE VOICE OF KUWAIT’S YOUTH, WHERE WE ADDRESS ALL PROBLEMS THEY RUN THROUGH AND TRY OUR BEST TO SOLVE. NOT ONLY SMALL BUSINESS BUT LIVES AS A WHOLE.

Based on your abroad study in the states, throw a glimpse of comparison between us and them, I remember you had a story here.

Yes, when I was in the US, I saw a fellow student carrying coffee mug everyday to class. when i asked why was that, the answer was that the person needed caffeine to stay awake, as this person had a full time job and a full time schedule at college, and had to strive to live and do a good job academically. Although he had a difficult life,  he was an A student, and yes, he did achieve something.

However, when it comes to Kuwait, our youth (not all), are concerned more with the latest fashion, countless distractions and just plane waste of time. They have families that supports them fully, life here is easy and flexible, much easier here where everything is available, being comfortable to live in general, shouldn’t we achieve more?

We have everything available, why dont we prosper by starting from ourselves before even waiting for the government or any entity to support. Alot of us come from good backgrounds with good income that can help anyone advance. I guess also the achievements in Kuwait have been accomplished because of the comfortable society and the family oriented part and because we all here are warm unlike some unfortunate countries. We have to capitalize on the privelege we enjoy and build on it.

n503016694_1229719_4973

What would make you get excited from the heart ?

I would be the happiest person in the world when I see everyone aroud me satisfied and happy with their lives, and would love it even more if im part of whats making them happy with anything i do directly/indirectly.

People especially the youth who represent the kuwait’s, have to always believe in themselves and know that others who have achieved anything was not because they were privelaged with something “special” but rather, put an effort into translating dreams into reality along with a great passion with what they do. Exactly, thats,  the correct formula im following that helped me succeed with what im doing at ford communications department and p2bk.

Support ? family & friends ?

As a person, i happen to be always striving to support everyone around me who happens to be close or distant. And as i happen to be raised, and came to learn that if u happen to be given an oppurtunity or a privilege, share it and spread a smile, not only that, as long as i can be of support to improve people’s lives I  will always be there for them wether it was for an educational cause or another cause; but educational benefits the most.

I am always a person who appreciates different kinds of efforts achieved from people and look up to everyone trying to cut his path with his effort in the challenging life; these people need the best exposure and media care to the maximum.

A big thank you to everyone for making different dreams come true. My family and friends. My parents, Noor al Wazzan, Talal Al-Wazzan, Bader Al Subai, Abdulwahab Al Rahmani, Nouf Al Qenai, Shoug Al Othman, Fatma Al Bader, Shamlan Al Bahar, Balsam and Lulu Al Ayoub, Ahmed Al Ghanim, Ghanima Al Otaibi and all volunteers.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now ?

I see myself in five years with a small family inshalla with maybe one or two kids :)

Talk about your upcoming events? What to expect ?

There is work thats being put together now with regards to the different new business oppurtunities/lines that I have been exploring and have invested in to hopefully see it prosper and expand the business globally; and a dream happens to be establishing my own franchises in different fields and see them spread internationally, by being distinguished for their branding, marketing, and overall appearence.

Building educational entities for the society to help educate people in different aspects (computer literacy, business, and other important subjects) for very minimal amounts.

Start organizations to start community service in Kuwait in all aspects.  Encourage people all over to work and put an effort to find a meaning to their life and having several events both locally and internationally spreading the message of being proud of who they are, where they came from, what they provided, rather than being lazy, boring individuals.

I love Kuwait.I have always loved Kuwait a lot, and would do whatever it is to support my country’s name and people in it.

Upcoming Event:

yes it would be different, obviously more businesses, and this will include much more activities that would fill up the whole day for visitors. lots of space is going to be availiable.but we’ll stress more on the Kuwaiti Side of the culture and would be working out several aspects to talk about the Kuwaiti tradition. Expect the unexpected. Anything that will make people patriotic and love Kuwait even more is being prepared behind the scenes. ITS GOING TO BE BIG !

Throw something for p0ach.com readers.

Time is everything, use every minute wisely, that minute is not coming back again. Give your time to those who are worth it like family, close friend or something you estimate as valuable. There are a lot of distractions, starting with school, work or even social networks, a healthy balance benefits your knowledge and so your achievements. Use your time wisely.

We should thank Allah for everything Allah provided us with health, satisfaction, comfort of living, and everything provided to us to make our life easier in this side of the world; again, we have to learn to appreciate everything good around us, and every effort put by anyone to help others as a whole, and learn to look at the POSITIVE side of things rather than just criticism, and maybe learn from what others achieved and use it as a big step forward for anything one might have planned or is looking to achieve.

“Never judge a book by its cover”, for p0ach readers, those bright minded beings, I address a special message about the p2bk event “people have to look at things positively and have to look up to how they benefited and enjoyed the p2bk experience rather than looking at something else and loosing their attention to something negative, like organization, time management, complaints”

Abdullah, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here, the pleasure of knowing you better and being part of this blog thats just growing by the second because of the amount of effort you’re putting into it, I salute you for that and hope this adds something to your blog and readers. Thanks again and im here to clarify any inquiries you might have.

  40. A big wow is my first comment on this nice interview…as a journalist i want to express my deep appreciation of abdullah’s eloquent writing style …he succeeded to make us like and respect Dhari more and more…as a reader, i heard and read a lot about Dhari’s achievements and this story comes to shed more light on his pesonality as a dynamic, ambitious, social and professional person … “ambition is enthusiasm with a purpose”…Dhari is setting an example to all of us by striving for success with hard work instead of looking for a life of ease that’s why i expect more success from him in various fields… May almighty God protect him and endow him with health and happiness, and enable him to fulfill all his goals and keep up the great initiatives like “proud to be kuwaiti”… Mohamad
