Aware-Ness: Terminology Switch

Yes I tend to be mean, only in a funny way though, I do feel warm and get sensitive inside, I am human after all. so here’s the thing.

Lets agree to never use this word again “Khadama” or “Khadam” anymore. Lets use this person’s name directly or refer to those who work WITH us as ” il 7areem” or ” il reyayel, il sibyaan”.

The people who work with us (not FOR us) at home, to me, are treated on different levels based on age, the elderly are like mother and father figures, so whenever i go to chalet or go away for a long time, I get to hug them and sometimes carry them from one place to another, I am wonderboy after all.

They would get into my room wake me up for work, splash water on my face, throw the pillow as hard as they could on my face, shaking me up, and most of all, on fridays, they’r the ones that wake me up and get everything ready for the friday prayer, knowing that their spiritual views are different.

The youngins are like brothers and sisters, we talk, chat and no barriers are there, except for respect, minding their various religious views & giving them space.

Many people I know are super kind, sweet & really human, so this is not for you.

Respect, compassion and humanity people.

I’d give my life to end discrimination. I am not asking much, its just a terminology, small change/switch/button  that would change alot in your perspective later on.

“ir7amo man fe al arth, yar7amkom man fe al sama’a”

amen to that! start teaching your kids at an early age people so that these qualities in a decent human being become the foundation of their future interaction with the “help”

  2. Noorah says:

That is so true. I have always been uncomfortable using that word as the job title, and you’re right it should be changed. Saudis use the word “shaghala” and it’s more functional I think. Just remember that these individuals left their homes and families in order to make our lives easier to manage.

politically: ‘makatib il 5adam’, all that crap, there needs to be much much greater regulation and rules, wala its insane the conditions that are set for both the ‘employer’ and ‘employee’ :P like those terms – employer/employee?

reem, thats so thoughtful, i mean showing your kids these limits makes them see things differently later, they’ll appreciate it when they grow up, they’ll thank you for it. I know I have, with my parents.

Agreed on the social political issues, these topics should touch more on that surface.

Kids are the only things i smile for non stop. Yet, i shut them up immediately when they tend to boss them around or throw stupid words at them.

I use the devil’s sharp look on my mug to scare them off :P
